- Create a realistic wedding budget and determine who is contributing to the budget. Know who is paying for which services before you start anything else.
- Create a manageable/realistic Guest List, and invite those guests who you want to share your special day with.
- Choose a wedding Venue to fit your guest size and overall vision.
- Hire a professional wedding planner to provide you with guidance, advice, vendor recommendations, and take the stress out of the planning process. Your planner will save you time and money!
Wedding Planning Don’ts
- Create an unrealistic Budget – You have not planned a wedding before and do not know wedding costs, so hire a professional wedding planner who can provide you with up-to-date wedding costs.
- Invite everyone you know since Kindergarten – You would love to have all of your friends, and unless you have an unlimited budget, think about who you really want there to celebrate with you on your special day. Ask yourself, would I invite this person out to dinner and pay their $100 tab for their meal and drinks?
- Choose a venue above your budget – Don’t fall in love with a venue you cannot afford. If you do this, then you will not have enough in your budget for all of your vendors. You may have a dream venue, but it might not match your budget. Again, ask for recommendations from your wedding planner for similar but affordable venues.
- Enlist your cousin Betty as your wedding planner – She is a wonderful person, but she is not a professional, does not have the experience, especially if unexpected events pop up. And most importantly, she is neither licensed nor insured, which could lead to liability issues for you.
