Gloria Schulz Events, Day of Wedding Coordinator Atlanta, interviewed the new owner, Kathy Heilman of the Historic Whitlock Inn, located in Marietta, Georgia. We asked Kathy a few questions so we could get to know her venue better and give you some information while you search for your perfect wedding venue!
The Whitlock Inn located in downtown Marietta, Georgia near the square, is a historic landmark that is just located right outside of Atlanta. For those of you who want a local city vibe and you want to keep your guests entertained for the whole weekend, not just your wedding day this location is perfect for you. The downtown Marietta square has restaurants for your rehearsal dinner, activities to do, and bars for the after-party! It’s the perfect place for a weekend getaway for all of your guests!
Since she and her husband purchased The Whitlock, they have been making some refreshing updates while keeping within the character and charm of the historic home. They are also in the process of making the Carriage House a venue with a bar for smaller, intimate weddings and events for approximately 50 guests.
Here are the questions we asked Kathy.
What is your rental fee? The fee for a Saturday reception is $5,000 and $1,000 if you include your ceremony onsite.
What is included in your rental fee? All of the tables and chairs, and bridal suite.
How many guests does the venue hold? For a seated reception 150 guests and for a cocktail reception up to 300 guests.
Why should couples choose your venue? The Whitlock Inn offers a beautiful setting for your wedding with a great location for your wedding guests to be entertained during the wedding weekend. Activities, restaurants, and bars are aplenty and if guests wish to venture into the city of Atlanta, it is a quick ride away! In addition, the venue offers much history and charm, with a beautiful backdrop for all of your wedding photos! Most of the couples who get married at the Whitlock, have grown up in the area, but have moved away and are happy to come back to the town that holds their childhood memories!
Do you have more than one wedding per day, No, there is only one wedding per day. You have the whole house to yourself!
Do you have a preferred vendor list? Yes, they have vendors they highly recommend. However, the only vendor that is required is one of the seven caterers on their list. All other vendors are just recommendations and are not required.
Do you require couples to use a planner/coordinator? Yes, all couples are required to use a professional wedding planner/coordinator. They highly recommend you have someone other than a family member coordinate your day. Leave it to a professional. Someone who is experienced and knows how to run the show for you. Let your family enjoy your wedding day too!
What is a frequently asked question you get asked by couples? “Can my dog be included in my wedding”? The answer is yes of course! They love when pets are incorporated into the couple’s weddings!
What advice would you give engaged couples? Choose a venue that fits your personality. And that fits your vibe and makes the party a reflection of you and your guests will have a good time. Make it fun! Choose foods you love, items you love, make it all about you and your partner!
What fun fact many people would like to know that we won’t find on your website? The Whitlock Inn has been hosting weddings in the house since the 1900s. It was a private home to the Whitlock family for many years before it was a wedding venue, and the family held their weddings in the home. There are photos on the walls of the weddings that were held at the venue way back then!
